British Values

British Values at the Junior School

The government set out its definition of British Values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy – values of:

  • Tolerance
  • Mutual respect between those of different faith and beliefs
  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty.

At All Saints’ CE Federation, a strong Christian ethos and good Religious Education contributes to spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and enables children to focus their attention on the values by which they might live; ultimately preparing them for adult life in modern, diverse Britain.

The school upholds and explores the value of ‘tolerance’ through:

  • Class rules
  • Learning about and reflecting on cooperation and teamwork
  • Curriculum areas – RE and PHSE

The school upholds and explores the value of ‘mutual respect’ through:

  • Staff and older children modelling respectful behaviours
  • Celebration of learning (certificates and displays)
  • Christian ethos

The school upholds and explores the value of ‘democracy’ through:

  • Class and school council
  • Pupil voice
  • Ensuring processes are democratic for staff and children

The school upholds and explores the value of ‘the rule of law’ through:

  • Applying class and school rules consistently
  • Opportunities to reflect on the rules and their fairness

The school upholds and explores the value of ‘individual liberty’ through:

  • Providing opportunities for children to make their own choices and be responsible for the ones they make
  • Collective worship
